The University of Maryland presents an AVHRR derived data set depicting percent tree cover as an alternative paradigm to representing landcover classification. Data acquired in 1992-93 from NOAA's AVHRR at a 1km spatial resolution was processed using the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP) (Eidenshink and Faudeen 1994) land cover definitions to derive percent tree cover maps.
