The primary focus of SEA-BASINS to date has been the Mekong River Basin. The key set of interdependent issues include:

  • Climate forcing on water availability and seasonality
  • Conversion and support of land for agriculture and other landuses
  • Water in channels for
              Flood detection and control
Availability for navigation, irrigation, timber floating
  • Dams and withdrawal of water for irrigation
  • Fisheries (floodplain habitat change)
  • Water quality, salinization and sediment transport
  • The Physical Template

  • Mekong Basin DEM 1km
  • Mekong Basin DEM 1/4 Degree (used for initial VIC)
