A little bit about this course...

This three (3) credit course offers an interdisciplinary team teaching approach to understanding the role of Satellite Remote Sensing and image processing in costal studies. The emphasis of the class is on developing an overview of the available data, the applications of that data in research, and the skill set necessary for the construction of derived dataset. Using current images from the Landsat ETM, SeaWiFs, and AVHRR platforms of the coastal lands and waters of Washington State, the course will use commercial image processing software combined with lectures, lab exercises, and independent projects to create a series of classified and/or derived datasets. Students will gain skills in working with various software (ERDAS Imagine, ArcGIS, ENVI) in the productions of the dataset, as well as experience in research design and methods in data management.
